@NextDoor removed my account 2 weeks ago because a few homophobic people made unwarranted complaints about my use of the site. They were trolling and they were on a mission. Now, NextDoor has removed my boyfriend’s posts as well because many of us complained about the unfairness of the “NextDoor Police” (volunteer leads in the neighborhood who are given the authority to make high-level decisions on behalf of the service). NextDoor is not what you think. It SHOULD be what it states as its mission statement but falls short. The folks running the show offer no warning before deleting comments, posts, and accounts. There doesn’t seem to be a single monkey in the place trying to keep the social site FAIR. Kicking people off for being gay? Terminating user profiles for using swear words? Suspending users for politely speaking their minds in neighborhood threads? Ignoring racist comments towards other users? Not OK.
My boyfriend and I use this site/service mostly to HELP our community and people/animals in it. But because we’re gay (and I don’t lay down for rude remarks), we get a lot of hate messages and a lot of fake complaints. And NextDoor ignores the hate and homophobia- but acts on false complaints- with no warning.
This is a very unfair “system” (I use that term loosely as they don’t really have much structure to their “guidelines”. I used that term loosely too, lol). And it’s shocking that they would allow this to happen especially considering they are Silicon Valley Startup.
Nevermind the homophobes and racists, Shame on you NextDoor for allowing this. Shame on you.
I’m sure the boyfriend’s account will be deleted just for posting a very similar, yet very true statement to the community on NextDoor.
One day they will get sued for discriminating/allowing discrimination towards some of their users. Shame on you @NextDoor.
